Miss Anne Sevier, member- of the faculty of Winthrop College, j will arrive today to be the guest of Mrs. Samuel S. Woody on Lind court Drive. Mrs. Lily-Way Rutledge Hayes of Chicago is visiting her cousins, Mrs. Lincoln Rutledge, Mrs. Philip ! Ongar and Mrs. Arthur Brintnall. The Spartanburg Herald reports a daughter born in General Hos pital to Mrs. Louise Howard of Landrum. MRS. WALTER JONES Mrs. Mary Ella Jones, widow of Walter Jones, prominent Tryon attorney, died Wednesday after noon at her home on Laurel Ave. She had been in declining health for several years. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3:30 at the Mc Farland Funeral chapel with the Rev. Paul F. Davis, pastor of the Methodist Church, officiating. ine deceased is survived by one daughter, Mrs. W. M. (Katharine) Spivey and two grandchildren, Mary Ella and Billie Banks Spivey; also five sisters, Mrs. Eunice Stock ard Watson of Tryon; Mrs. J. B. Cheek, Burlington; Mrs. O. W. Hooker, Raleigh; Mrs. .T. B. Free man, Washington, D. C.; Mrs. Frank Barber, Cleveland, N. C. Mrs. Jones before her marriage was Miss Mary Ella Roberson of Hyde County, N. C. She and her husband came to Saluda about 1912 and moved to Tryon about 1921 to make their home. Mrs. Jones taught music in the Tryon schools until her retirement about 1() years ago. She was a devoted church worker and organist in the Metho dist church for many years. MRS. ELMER J. CUMMINGS Mrs. Mary Elmer Johnson Cum mings, 36, wife of Lloyd Cummings Sr., of Rockford, 111., formerly of Tryon and Greer, died Tuesday at noon in a Rockford hospital after a month’s illness. S.he was twice married, first to Frank Johnson.
